Details
Learn business and economics together
Since in professional life, both business knowledge is required as well as the ability to understand economic relationships, too much specialisation in your degree can fail to do justice to the various career opportunities in the occupational field of economics. The integration of economics and business management in one degree course is therefore a central feature of the Bochum concept and has now been implemented in a university degree course for the first time. The Faculty of Economics offers the Bachelor’s degree in management and economics. The objective of the course is to develop economic methods of thinking and their application without having being moulded into a macro-economic or business management mindset. In addition, the faculty also offers the subject economics in the orientations of business management or economics in the two-subject Bachelor’s degree.
Areas of specialisation from financial policy to marketing
The areas of specialisation of the faculty are especially accounting, finance and taxation, marketing, labour economics and policy, international economics, environmental, resource and energy economics, as well as economic and financial policy. The faculty’s national and international collaborations help students with semesters abroad and practical placements and facilitate career entry.
Given a standard study period of six semesters, the Bachelor’s degree in management and economics is divided into two phases. The first two semesters form the basic phase in which you gain fundamental, in particular methodological expertise in the field of economics.
The next four semesters make up the profiling phase. Here you gain advanced knowledge and skills in selected areas of economics. In this phase, you should acquire skills that enable you to independently solve problems in your everyday work and, at the same time, prepare you for a further academic qualification, such as a Master’s degree.
The individual optional mandatory modules can be chosen from various subject areas of economics. It is largely up to you whether the individual course content is to cover broad areas of management and/or economics, or whether the aim is to specialise in a particular subject area.
