Central skills for the contemporary world of work

In the B.A. section, the German Studies degree offers a basic academic education, in the course of which the history and systematics of German language and literature are studied in the larger context of cultural and media studies. You acquire specialist knowledge, skills, and methodological competence that enable you to carry out academic work and learn how to use this work for professional and social purposes. Through the specialist philological degree, which is described below for the three German subjects in more detail, you develop key communication skills (especially language and text comprehension and oral and written language formation), which are indispensable as key skills in the modern world of work.

Language, historical and modern literature

Important areas of German Studies include German linguistics with the structure of the German language, medieval language, and literature and ist specific historical contexts within the framework of German medieval studies and modern German literature (read and understand literary texts, and present the findings gained in a scientific form). In the German Studies degree you also develop your communication skills in various forms: as a university teaching skill (for example, through professionally guided tutoring work), as a subject teaching skill (through subject didactics courses and course components) and as a continuing education teaching skill (for example in courses which focus on vocational training concepts).
