Protestant Theology - Master’s/Ministry Degree



Overview
The Faculty of Protestant Theology offers all the main theological subjects. A special focus of the faculty is on the departments of Christian sociology, ecumenics, and religious studies. Furthermore, feminist theology and theological gender research have a high priority. This degree also prepares students for the examination to enter the ministry.

Details
Sociology, ecumenics, and religious studies
The Faculty of Protestant Theology offers all the main theological subjects. A special feature of the faculty is made up of the departments of Christian sociology, ecumenism, and religious studies. Furthermore, feminist theology and theological gender research have a high priority. The ancient Hebrew and Greek languages can also be learned here.
The aim of the protestant theology degree is the qualification Magister Theologiae.
Furthermore, the course prepares you for the “first theological examination” (ministry examination) which is taken in the various Landeskirchen (state churches) of the Protestant Church in Germany (EKD). The basic subjects are the Old Testament, New Testament, church history, systematic theology/dogmatics, systematic theology/ethics, practical theology, and religious studies.
In the degree, you can specialise in one of the special research areas of the Protestant Theological Faculty in Bochum, which include the following topics: healing and disease, religious research, gender studies, social ethics, interreligious dialogue, ecumenism, and the history of social welfare work.
Application
General requirement: You need at least a high school degree to study this programme. For admission and successful studies a high standard of German language skills is required.
There are no restrictions.
