Overview

The Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry specialises in the future-oriented fields of materials science, molecular chemistry, and life sciences. The research topics range from the solution of practical problems from the field of modern surface technology and catalysis research with industrial partners, to questions of the chemical origin of life and molecular functions of memory processes. The two-subject degree can be studied with the final qualification “M.Ed.” (teaching certificate for grammar schools and comprehensive schools).

  • Start: Winter semester recommendet - enrolment for summer semster is possible but usually no courses for beginners are being offered

From surface engineering to the origin of life

The Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry specialises in the future-oriented fields of materials science, molecular chemistry, and life sciences. The research topics range from questions of the chemical origin of life and molecular functions of memory processes to the solution of practical problems from the field of modern surface technology and catalysis research with industrial partners.

We offer the following courses: Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) in the subjects chemistry and biochemistry, PhD in the Graduate School of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and a two-subject Bachelor with the options of then taking either a Master of Science or the Master of Education with the aim of becoming a teacher.

The two-subject degree course prepares you primarily for the Master of Education in chemistry. It comprises seven modules: inorganic and analytical chemistry, practical inorganic and analytical chemistry with the inorganic chemistry practical placement and analytical chemistry practical placement; organic chemistry and the module practical organic chemistry with the practical placement organic chemistry; physical chemistry with practical placement, general chemistry, and the physical chemistry placement.
