Overview
General requirements:
An interest in scientific questions, the capacity to think analytically, logically and across subject boundaries; an enjoyment in exploring details and creating coherent systems and structures.
Language requirements:
For foreign applicants:
Certificate of German skills in the form of the TestDaF (Test „Deutsch als Fremdsprache“, at least level 4x4) or DSH (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang, at least level 2) or an equivalent language test, like DSD (Deutsches Sprachdiplom, Level C1).
For all applicants:
Good English language skills are indispensable because of the use of English scientific literature.
Subject specific requirements:
The B.Sc. degree in Biology (of at least 3 years duration) or a comparable degree is a prerequisite for admission. On admission with a comparable degree, the examination board may decide to require the student to attend further courses and pass additional tests and also fix a time span for meeting these requirements.

Details
Subject-specific knowledge and methodological competence is taught by means of investigating current research questions in one of the faculty’s four areas of focus:
- Structure Biology
- Molecular Botany and Microbiology
- Neurobiology
- Biodiversity.

Links between biology and related sciences are investigated through studies in the mandatory elective subjects. This approach promotes complex and interdisciplinary thinking and working.
Experimental subjects from the natural sciences, engineering or medicine are eligible as mandatory elective subjects.
