The Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry specialises in the future-oriented fields of materials science, molecular chemistry and life sciences. The research topics range from questions of the chemical origin of life and molecular functions of memory processes to the solution of practical problems from the field of modern surface technology and catalysis research with industrial partners.
In the first part (1st - 4th semester), the Bachelor’s degree teaches the foundations of general and analytical chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, as well as organic and physical chemistry - through lectures, tutorials, seminars and practical placements. In addition to this, there are classes in biology, medicine, mathematics, physics, laboratory animal science, and genetic engineering law.
In the second part (5th and 6th semester) you receive in-depth training in biochemistry, molecular biology, organic and physical chemistry, structural analysis, bioethics, and one optional subject from the subject areas of the specialisation (see Master’s degree). As additional subjects you can choose applied computer science, business administration, law, philosophy of science, foreign languages, or other natural science subjects. You can write your Bachelor’s thesis on one of the practical placements in the 5th or 6th semester or in one of the additional subjects.
