Overview
General requirements:
The Master programme requires an active interest in the language, literature, and culture of English-speaking countries, especially of Britain and the USA. The readiness to deal with subject-related areas of study in a scholarly manner and to obtain skills “on location” is specifically expected.
Language requirements (for foreign applicants):
Certificate of German language skills in the form of TestDaF (Test „Deutsch als Fremdsprache“, at least level 4x4) or DSH (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang, at least level 2) or an equivalent language test, like DSD (Deutsches Sprachdiplom, Level C1). For all applicants:
Applicants are expected to have English language skills at level C1 of the Common European Reference Framework.
The “Latinum” or corresponding Latin language skills or alternatively skills in a further foreign language (besides English) at level B1 are required.
For foreign students a qualification in their mother tongue can replace the certification of a foreign language or the “Latinum”.
Subject specific requirements:
A B.A. degree in English/American Studies or a university degree which is regarded at least as equivalent in this or a related subject with a duration of at least 3 years.

Details
The following modules are offered in the Master programme for English/American Studies:
- English Literature until the end of the 17th Century
- English Literature from the 18th Century to the present day
- American Literature
- Linguistics
- Cultural Studies GB
- Cultural Studies USA
- Languages for Special Purposes
- Language Practice
- Examination Module.
In the M.A. programme students can specialise according to their interests in one of the following areas: Literary Studies, Linguistics, Cultural Studies or Languages for Special Purposes. At least one module must be studied outside the area of focus.

Requirement: You need a counseling interview with the programme´s student counselor before registration. In some Master-Programmes there are more specific requirements. Please contact your student counselor.
