A place where intellect thrives
Less than 100 years ago, there was not a single university in the Ruhr region. This region was the beating heart of the steel industry; critical thinking was not wanted. After the war, it was time to risk a daring new beginning: the first new university in the Federal Republic of Germany was established in Bochum. A place where intellect could thrive – right in the centre of the industrial heartland! Today, RUB conducts leading research at an international level. And it is so much more – lively, international, creative, and diverse.

During the long "Night of Industrial Culture", visitors are welcomed to RUB with student performances on the campus route. Along the entire stretch from the Musisches Zentrum to the university library, visitors experience an ingenious and thought-provoking trail of shining, concealed, artistic, scientific, and entertaining productions and installations.
