Studying Abroad

In the program there is no compulsory semester to study abroad. However, master’s students have the possibility of spending a semester at one of the partner universities all over Europe and on many other continents. For example, the Faculty of Management and Economics at RUB offers an exchange program with Tongji University in Shanghai or with the HSBC Business School of Peking University Shenzhen in China. Students studying abroad via an exchange program will be exempt from all tuition fees at the host institution. In cooperation with our faculty, the HSBC Business School offers a scholarship for the stay in Shenzhen. You may apply for additional scholarships and grants (ERASMUS, DAAD, university scholarships). Please refer to the International Office where you will find further information and a list of all RUB’s partner universities: http://international.rub.de/ausland/studium/allekooperationen.html.en.

Furthermore, for those students starting in the summer term the MSc Program offers the unique possibility of a double degree program in cooperation with the University of East Anglia in Norwich, UK. After spending the summer semester in Bochum, you will study two subsequent semesters in Norwich. For the fourth semester, you will come back to Bochum to write your master’s thesis. RUB students in the double degree program will receive a rebate in tuition fees in Norwich. For further information, please have a look at http://www.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/mak/mam/content/uea-doppelmaster_allgemein.pdf  (document in English available soon) or contact the Chair of Macroeconomics, Prof. Roos.

Besides, each winter semester, up to ten students are admitted to the English language program "PHBS-RUB Double Master in Economics and Finance" offered by the Faculty of Management and Economics at RUB and the Peking University HSBC Business School (PHBS) in Shenzhen, China. Successful Double Masters students are awarded to degrees: MSc in Economics (RUB) and Master of Finance (PHBS). This program is unique due to the fact that RUB and PHBS students study together several semesters in two different cultures (Germany and China). RUB Double Masters students spend theit first year at RUB and their second year at PHBS. The Double Masters Program provides students with intercultural and language competence which will improve their international employability considerably.
