Publication: The Fate of the Memory Trace

First European Campus of Excellence Summer School in Neuroscience

What’s happening in the brain when we forget? How does functional magnetic resonance imaging work? How can we figure out what’s going on inside nerve cells? These and many more questions keep early careers memory researchers busy. In search of answers, thirty excellent students from all over Europe met at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum in September 2011. For three weeks, they explored the fate of the memory trace during the first European Campus of Excellence Summer School in Neuroscience .

Many new insights about learning, remembering, and forgetting were gained during morning lectures, afternoon practicals, and key-note speeches in the evenings – and a lot of exciting Ruhr area experiences were made in the leisure time. Already during the event, they shared their knowledge and experiences in a blog. Now, the booklet “The Fate of the Memory Trace” tells the whole story of the three week summer school.

Science journalism, a diary, interviews, and various other impressions await the interested reader. The publication is available for download at no cost. Have a look and dive into the many fascinating topics of neuroscience!
