TestDaF - Test of German as a Foreign Language
What is TestDaF?
TestDaF - "Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache/Test of German as a Foreign Language" is a language test suitable for learners of German at an advanced level of language proficiency who would like to study or work in Germany.
TestDaF is a standardised language test assessing linguistic performance within the context of university life.
TestDaF is administered by a worldwide net of licensed test centres and thus can be taken in the candidate’s home country. The test papers are compiled at the TestDaF Institute and are subject to a centralised evaluation procedure.
General Information about TestDaF
The TestDaF provides universally recognised proof of the language skills required for admission to any German university.
Candidates fulfil the requirements for admission to the Ruhr-Universität Bochum if they achieve TDN 4 in all four subtests.
TestDaF examines the following four language skills in separate subtests: reading comprehension, listening comprehension, writing, speaking. An official certificate documents the student's performance in each of the four subtests.
TestDaF measures several levels of language performance.
Each candidate's scores are aggregated to determine the candidate's performance as to one of the following levels:
• TestDaF-Niveaustufe 5 (TDN 5) - TestDaF level 5
• TestDaF-Niveaustufe 4 (TDN 4) - TestDaF level 4
• TestDaF-Niveaustufe 3 (TDN 3) - TestDaF level 3
TDN 5 is the highest level. A score below TDN 3 shows that within this subtest the candidate has not yet reached the lowest level measured by TestDaF.
The TestDaF examination is carried out worldwide; all instructions and questions are in German.

Bochum Ruhr University is one of the official TestDaF testing centres.
TestDaF examinations in 2012/13:
• 13.11.2012 (closing date for applications: 16.10.2012)
• 13.02.2013 (closing date for applications: 16.01.2013)
• 18.04.2013 (closing date for applications: 21.03.2013)
• 11.06.2013 (closing date for applications: 14.05.2013)
• 18.07.2013 (closing date for applications: 20.06.2013)
• 12.09.2013 (closing date for applications: 14.08.2013)
• 13.11.2013 (closing date for applications: 16.10.2013)
Please note: There is a limited number of places, so please apply early.
Enrolment:
To enrol for TestDaF in Bochum you need to:
1. Fill in the application form on the following Website Application form for the TestDaF-Test. Please acknowledge the the general conditions.
2. Pay the examination fee (€ 175) by Visa-Card or debit entry (You can find our Bankinformation in the end of the application form.
3. At least please check your data and affirm. After the closing date of application and receipt of payment you will be called by an email from the TestDaF-Institut Bochum to print out your permission.
You have to take this permission and your passport to the TestDaF exam.
4. Are there any problems during the application? Do you want to change your data or did you forget your password? Please contact immediately the TestDaF-Institut in Bochum.
Please note: If you wish to enrol for the TestDaF examination, it is not necessary to have an Admission to the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. The TestDaF examination may be taken any number of times.
TestDaF Preparation
Enrolment Requirements for TestDaF-IP (according to the Common European Framework of Reference)
Listening + Reading:
Participants can comprehend the general nature and details of complex academic spoken and written material and can extract the relevant information for working through a problem.
Speaking + Writing:
Participants can express their opinion, approval, and disagreement in a spontaneous and fluent manner and can give clear and detailed descriptions (e.g. pro- and contra positions) about their areas of interest in spoken and written form.
The TestDaF center in Bochum offers an intensive preparation course for TestDaF - TestDaF-IP. The next dates are:

• 18.03.2013 - 16.04.2013 (€ 180,00)
• 02.05.2013 - 07.06.2013 (€ 200,00)
• 24.06.2013 - 16.07.2013 (€ 170,00)
• 07.08.2013 - 10.09.2013 (€ 200,00)
• 07.10.2013 - 11.11.2013 (€ 200,00)
To enrol for the intensive preparation course you need to:

3. Hand in the application form and the bank receipt or send it to us by post or by fax.
4. After receiving your application form and the examination fee, we will send you a confirmation of enrolment.
