Focus on Equal Opportunities

Fully committed to its guiding principle of “universitas”, Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) aims to provide equal opportunities for its constituents across every area of the university. Ensuring equal opportunities is considered a central task for all parts of the university and significantly contributes to the development of the university’s profile.

Because equality of women and men has not yet become reality across all levels of the hierarchy, and the proportion of female scientists in professorial positions is only 20%, RUB has established a permanent offering of integrated and individual equality-related programmes in several different offices and departments.

During the winter semester 2009/2010, the Rectorate and all 20 faculties (RUB’s disciplinary institutional units) agreed on a set of objectives regarding equal opportunities in order to further increase the proportion of female academics in positions of leadership. These objectives serve to promote quality assurance and have been integrated into the institutional system of quality-assurance mechanisms (university development plan ).
