WELCOME TO THE WEB PAGE OF THE JOINT GRADUATE MASTERS PROGRAMME 'BIODIVERSITY'
Our advanced Masters course is an interdisciplinary degree programme, which was jointly launched by the Ruhr-University Bochum and the University Duisburg/Essen in 2013/14. International Bachelor students from all fields of Bioscience studies can apply for this innovative and practical MSc programme.
A team of 12 professors cover the complex and diverse topics within the field of biodiversity research. Our programme offers a broad range of opportunities for interdisciplinary and specialized research courses for all Masters candidates. Compared to other study programmes, the “MSc Biodiversity” in Bochum and Duisburg/Essen is outstanding for an innovative, multifaceted and interdisciplinary curriculum as well as for a unique research focus in the field of eukaryotic microorganisms such as fungi and protists.
Our Masters programme offers a multidisciplinary and far-reaching set of research that will prepare masters candidates for an array of successful academic, public and private-sector careers in the field of biology, biodiversity and other life sciences.
Bachelor students with a background in biology, ecology or related subjects are welcome to apply for the 2015/2016 master's programme until the 15th of July.

A future without bananas or even an innovative harvest on the planet mars?
These were only two inconceivable biological scenarios that were presented within the 3rd Science Slam “Biodiversity” on Thursday, 17th of December 2015. Ten students of the first master semester “Biodiversity” convinced, thrilled and entertained their audience in the crowded Blue Square Campus with their inventive 300-second-Slams about current topics and unknown facts of biodiversity research. |BE PART of it - final event
In June, students of the working group „geobotany" allocated about 600 young plants of the species "Silene latifolia" to more than 100 interested "citizen scientists" of the Ruhr area. Within the innovative project "BE PART of it", all plants were previously infected with two specific types of the smut fungus Microbotryum to find out more about the effects of double infection of Microbotryum on Silene. On Wednesday, 09 September 2015 our citizen scientists were invited to give their reports about the development and characteristics of their plants.
