Research

Our group is interested in the multifaceted biochemistry of microorganisms. On the one hand, bacteria are the causative agent of many infectious diseases. But on the other hand, microorganisms are also great model organisms to explore basic concepts of biology and a source of proteins with great biotechnological potential.

We use bacteria to study oxidative signaling and redox regulation through reversible modification of proteins. We think that this redox signaling can help bacteria to survive the vast array of oxidants our immune system uses to kill pathogens.
