POI 2: University Library

The RUB library is one of the largest university libraries in Germany. 4.2 million monographs and 6000 journals can be found here. On top of that there are almost 60 000 electronic journals, 3 500 data bases and 15 000 e-books.

About 150 employees and numerous student assistants take care of the collection and can provide you with good advice. This is the fundamental backbone that supports the students’ research – 7 days a week until late in the evening.

But there is more going on in here than just work: During the day you can have coffee at Edwards located on the ground floor or visit an exhibition in the central stairway. Art can also be enjoyed outside the library. Standing in front of the North Forum and looking in the direction of the library, you will see a reproduction of Picasso’s “Guernica” as well as the brick wall relief by Henryk Dywan.
