POI 10: NA Dome

The NA building looks a little different from its siblings in the North Street – it has two domes on top of the roof. This is the home of the Astronomic Institute. At the end of the nineties, this institute started to build an observatory in Chile, which is the official observatory of the RUB since 2010. The Atacama Desert in Chile is said to be the best place for astronomic observation all over the world. There, Bochum's astronomers search the sky for instance for newly developing stars using five telescopes with a diameter of up to 1.5 m. The data obtained in Chile are transferred to the RUB via the internet.
