POI 1: North Forum

Don’t worry, this is not a thunderstorm – that’s just the sound of RUB! Members of the Ruhr University Bochum have become very used to the unmistakable noise of the clattering paving stones. Over the time you would never want to miss this typical sound of the university campus. But let’s not get distracted:

Today the Ruhr University, which was built within just a few years and opened in 1965, has more than 33 000 students and over 5 000 employees.
Right now you are standing in front of the North Forum, which is the central entrance to the campus.

With the subway POI behind you, you can see the Center of Arts and Music to your right. This is the place where the university choir and orchestra rehearse. Furthermore you can find creative works such as photography, painting, and artistic modeling here. The outcome of these creative subjects can be viewed in the foyer where all the different pieces of art are exhibited on a regular basis.

If you get thirsty for coffee you should consider a visit of the Kulturcafé. This is located just next door in the Students’ House. Here you will also find the Student Union, which is called AStA. The Service Center for People with Disabilities is also housed in this building. The Administration Departments are located on the opposite site of the North Forum. Behind its revolving door you can find the Info Point with a university shop and the Café Olé.
