Alumni Testimonials
Dr. Regina Görner, Mitglied des Vorstandes der IG Metall
The Ruhr-Universität didn't have a top-down atmosphere. People were open and friendly, you could always ask anybody anything, and you got a lot of support.
Dr. Michael Weinhold, Chief Technology Officer, Siemens AG, Energy Sector
The more you get involved with Bochum and the Ruhr-Universität, the more you grow to like both. And then it hurts when you have to leave.
Dr. Klaus Engel, Chemistry, Chairman of the Board at Evonik Industries AG
If I had the time, I would immediately take up my studies here again - there are so many exciting things happening here at the RUB!
to the top
Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, Social Science, President of the Federal Parliament
I still have the famous plastic student ID card from the first generation of RUB students […], the first machine-readable ID cards. However, because of the format of these punchcards you almost needed an entire briefcase just for them.
Dr. Hans-Paul Bürkner, Economics and Sinology, CEO and President The Boston Consulting Group
Whether the buildings are old and appear romantic but are not very functional, or whether they look objective and functional and are in fact functional, is of marginal importance. In the end, every place depends on the people you learn to know there.
Dorothee Dzwonnek, Law, Secretary General Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation) and member of the RUB university council
A new lively university in a changing Ruhr Area. History of Law with Paul Mikat […]. Lectures in the HZO’s largest lecture hall with 15 students who wanted to sense something of the European canon of education. And still there was always life in it.
Michael Henke, Sports Science and Geography, Chief analyst, FC Bayern Munich
I always felt as happy as a pig in muck in the Ruhr Area, especially when it comes to football. Bayern Munich sure has an immense status in Germany. But the Ruhr Area is the true cradle of football.
Dr. Michael Frenzel, Law, CEO TUI AG
People worked intensively and methodically. This young university was symbolic of a forward-looking orientation. It was and it is a “performance university” where people work intensively.
Christoph Böll, German Studies and History, Filmmaker
I found it great that this “academic box” left loopholes like the SKF (Studienkreis Film/ Student’s Cinema Club) or the “Musisches Zentrum” (Centre of Art and Music).
Dr. Ralf Schremper, Economics, Executive Vice President Bertelsmann AG until 2008
At Bertelsmann I always wear suits but when I go jogging I often wear RUB T-Shirts.
Dr. Uwe Ganzer, Law, Sole Director Varta AG
But concrete is just what you make of it and that is one of the RUB's most important advantages: The faculties are located very close to each other. You practically just have to find the way from the GC to the GB building and you already participate in a philosophy lecture.
Dr. Gerd Brüne, Economics, Publishing Director, Gruner + Jahr GEO Group
It was a good time and I had great lecturers who have taught me a lot. The architectural modernity that might have irritated other people has convinced me. I liked this objectivity as it was associated with a high functionality.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Klaus Homann, Mechanical Engineering, Managing Director RWE Transportnetz Gas GmbH
When I was a student I drove a typical ‘68s car, a former police VW beetle. Since the starter didn’t work anymore – a typical problem of the 6V (!) system – the parking attendant always reserved me a parking space on a slope. Such things were still possible in those days.
