Top 10

The publication on "Liquid phase stepwise growth of surface mounted metal–organic frameworks for exploratory research and development of applications" by Min Tu, Suttipong Wannapaiboon and Roland A. Fischer* is amongst the Top 10 accessed articles of the journal Inorganic Chemistry Frontiers in the third quarter of 2014 (July - September).

Sebastian Henke will return in November 2014 to the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry II at the Ruhr-University Bochum. In 2011 he finished his PhD here and now takes the opportunity of the Return Fellowship of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Poster Prize

Congratulations to Clarissa Kroll, who won the Student Poster Prize at the XXVI International Conference on Organometallic Chemistry (ICOMC) 2014 in Sapporo, Japan. This prize has been awarded for her poster presentation on "Non Aqueous Organometallic Synthesis of Bimetallic Nanoparticles and Colloids (2P195)."
Congratulations also to Christoph Rösler and Sebastian Henke, who won Poster Awards at the 4th International Conference on Metal-Organic Frameworks and Open Framework Compounds. Christoph Rösler his poster on "Graphene/MOF composite materials for electrocatalysis" and Sebastian Henke on "Investigatives on the Exceptional Mechanical Response of Pillared-Layered Soft Porous Crystals"

We congratulate Nagendra Babu Srinivasan to the successful defence of his doctoral thesis!

Seminar Start

The General Group Seminar of the chair II of inorganic chemistry begins next week. Interested guests and students are most welcome. It starts next Wednesday, the 30th April 2014, at 09:15 a.m. in NC 3/99. Check it out!

Finishing Line

We congratulate three doctoral researchers for the successful completion of their theses. Michael Krasnopolski and Sun Ja Kim come from the area of Chemical Vapour Deposition and Olesia Kozachuk originates from the group for Metal-Organic Frameworks. Friends and family of course do not want to miss this big step in life, even if it means to come all the way from Ukraine.

One Thing Followed Another

Out of the delayed plane Prof. Negishi leaped into the lecture hall and without further ado presented the audience what was steaming and hissing in his laboratories in Japan. This was to be an extraordinary honour especially for Arik B. Puls since Prof. Fischer and Prof. Negishi sat side by side the next day in the disputation of his doctor thesis. Not only Arik had to defend that day: Also Vanessa Gwildies took the chance and closed the final chapter of this play.
We are happy to see that both of them mastered their disputations in their own ways. All the best from ACII!

Successfully Defended

"The disputation, the last act of the drama." These were the introductory words but nothing bad was implicated at all. Quite the contrary: Before his disputation Mariusz Molon already showed how much work he has done during his PhD. Just take a peek into his publications. Today, he faced Prof. Muhler, Prof. Metzler-Nolte and Prof. Fischer in a disputation which he successfully and under grand applause finished.
Congratulations, Mariusz, from all of ACII!

New Publication

Heteroepitaxial growth of surface mounted metal–organic framework thin films with hybrid adsorption functionality
Min Tu and Roland A. Fischer

Metal–organic framework thin film heterostructures of type [Cu3btc2] on top of [Cu2ndc2dabco] were fabricated on quartz crystal microbalance substrates using a step-by-step growth approach and the resulting hybrid adsorption properties for volatile organic compounds were studied.
