ECCell overall MEMS architectures

The overall architecture of the ECCell supporting chemical microprocessor network is shown in two variants A and B below. These architectures will be an ongoing subject for research during the project, but certain features are expected to be preserved. In particular, experience has shown that it is profitable to divide the network into a resource supply network with low information content and a hydrodynamically isolated information processing network for electronically controlled reactions and transport.

The figures show the hydrodynamically isolated electrical communication network (yellow) and pressure driven flow networks (red, green, grey). The twin complementary directed pressure driven flow networks allow either a) contamination free delivery of two resource fields to the ECCells or b) interdigitated two way molecular communication between ECCells (using conducting ionic liquid droplet chains).
